Neighbours - Caring for Neighbours
Philosophy of Care
Underpinning Grand Home Care's philosophy is our commitment to and adoption of the following principles:
The experience of growing autonomy or self-determination, in not only small everyday matters, but also in major decisions that people make, such as, where they live or with whom they live wherever possible. Personal choice and autonomy defines and expresses the way people live.
The experience of having a valued place among a network of people and valued roles in community life. It is concerned with challenging the limited negative stereotypes which are built up around people who require home care.
The experience of being part of a growing network of personal relationships.
The experience of a person gaining more skills and ability to perform functional and meaningful activities with whatever assistance is required, underpinned by a belief in Person Centred Planning and a right to chose.
Every individual in our care has their right to independence promoted. We seek to enable them to develop and grow and maintain these skills for as long as possible.
For as long as it is their choice to do so, we will promote their right to care within their own home. Should they wish to move on to a different care provider outside of our Company, we will support that also.
We are committed to enhancing two-way communication with key stakeholders of Grand Home Care including employees, managers, professionals, clients and their family members. This commitment involves initiatives such as:
Training calendar and regular bulletins (for staff and managers)
Everything that we do is motivated by our aim to achieve the highest standard of care possible for our clients and their families, and we continually strive to improve the services we offer.
Aims and Objectives
Grand Home Care exists for the well-being of people in need of care within the community. We aim to provide a supportive environment where people of all ages are encouraged and enabled to achieve their full potential as individuals and inclusive citizens in their own community.
This is irrespective of their intellectual capacity, gender, race, age or religious persuasion.
Key Values of Grand Home Care
At Grand Home Care we value diversity and actively promote equality. The following values and aspirations encapsulate our beliefs:
Each person is valued as an individual and everybody has the right to be treated with respect and to express their individuality.
Everyone is supported in a non-judgemental way based on the key principles of anti-discriminatory practice.
Purposeful daily life and positive outcomes will evolve from person centred plans which treat each person as an individual however complex their needs.
Each person has the right to participate in their local community and access community facilities and resources.
At Grand Home Care, we aim to do this by:
Being person centred in
everything we do.
To provide a bespoke package of care for each individual that is written with them and, where appropriate, their families and representatives, and meets their needs and aspirations.
To promote opportunities for choice and control in all aspects of a person's life.
To enable each person to chose their lifestyle and live a fulfilling life.
To develop and maintain a qualified and experienced staff team that is well motivated and can meet the defined needs of each person.

The service provides individual support for the clients to enable them to achieve as much Independence as possible in their daily lives.
Clients are supported to take part in activities both in their homes and in the community. Integration with the local community is encouraged.
Staff provide a holistic, person centred approach to care, taking into account the individual needs and preferences of each resident, encouraging them to reach their full potential.
Respite and Sitter Service
We can provide a 'rolling programme' of care over the year, for example one weekend every month. It can be a one off period of short term care, for example when your family carer goes on holiday.
Sitting Service - Day and Night
The Sitting Service provides personal care and social stimulation within the client’s home and community and this also allows respite for carers on an evening basis. We play board games, carry out craft activities, go out into the community for walks, drinks, snacks and listen to music. It is very much up to the client to decide what they want to do. We are also able to offer memory retention games and mental exercises for clients suffering from Dementia or Alzeimers.
We are able to provide the following services in addition to those mentioned above:
Learning and Training
All new staff receive Induction Training when they join the service. This outlines the principles of care and explains the role of the Care Worker.
The Induction also covers safety at work and how to communicate effectively. An important aspect of this training is how to respond to abuse and neglect and what procedure is to be followed.
Care Workers also receive training for specific essential areas such as Medication, Fire Safety, Food Hygiene and Dealing with Challenging Behaviour to name but a few.
The service also provides the environment for staff to complete the National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) Level 2 in Health and Social Care. This is a professional qualification and in addition to improving staff working practice, they also receive a pay increment. The service believes that learning should continue throughout your career and should enable you to develop new skills and open up career options.
Our service aims to meet the needs of clients from all sectors in the community living in Gibraltar.
Grand Home Care is recognised for its excellent care and support for people who have complex, challenging or specialist needs.
Parents, Relatives and Friends
With the client's agreement we actively encourage family, friends and representatives to be as involved as possible both in the lives of clients and in the care package that we offer.
